NCL (Norwegian Cruise Line) is a name of a company which has been operating cruise ships since 1966.It came into operation in 1966 by the name of Norwegian Caribbean Line. The headquartered of NCL (Norwegian Cruise Line) is situated in unincorporated Miami-Dade County, Florida. The basic concept of this company is Freestyle Cruising. It means no setting time, no seating arrangements for taking meals and no formal attire. The NCL (Norwegian Cruise Line) is a jointly owned company of star cruises and Apollo management. The NCL Cruises also has a sister company which name is NCL America. Approximately 8% of the total cruise market is controlled by NCL.
The founder of this company is Knut Kloster and Ted Arison.They founded this company with just one 830-ton cruise ship. The NCL Cruises is pioneer of introducing many cruise ships in cruises industry such as Out Island Cruise, Ocho Rios in Jamaica etc.The second ship of the NCL “Starward” had the capability of carrying automobiles even through a concealed stern door. The Norwegian Cruise Line Company innovate many cruise ships which now have become standard throughout the whole cruise industry.
NCL has expanded its service to many others parts of the world, including Alaska, Europe, Bermuda, and Hawaii. The NCL cruises operated from 1997 to 2001 by the name of Norwegian Capricom Line. The NCL Cruises purchased a half-complete project ship of America in 2002.As a result this company entitled the rights to move two ships entirely outside the territory of the United States under their flag. Star Cruises sold 50% share of NCL for only $1 billion to Apollo Management (an Us-based cruise ship company) just to strengthen the financial position of the NCL (Norwegian Cruise Line) in August, 2007. On October 25, 2010, the NCL reached an agreement with Meyer Werft for the construction of the two new vessels. These two ships will be delivered one in spring, 2013 and another in 2014.If these ships are delivered timely these two ships will be largest ship in Germany which is ever built. Kevin Sheehan has been appointed new CEO of NCL on the January 2, 2011.
